Dawn’s Coffee Talk

MAY the FORCE be with you SE Region!! ⚔️ I am sure each of you have been feeling all kinds of forces surrounding you this month! What a busy, busy, busy, month we have had already!  From Mega Agent Day, Mega Leadership Camp, BOLD, all the industry updates and it being GRADUATION and end of the school year season, we are all swamped with our businesses and personal life happenings!  Some of us might even feel a sense of whiplash from moving so fast and pivoting quickly each and every day! I am always in awe of what people are capable of accomplishing when life feels like chaos.  Have you ever heard the saying, “if you want something done, give it to a busy person?”  Why do you think people say that?  It is because busy people are people who embrace high accountability.  Unlike a person who chooses a “victim” mentality because they “wait and hope” for things to get done or make excuses on why they can’t do something, an accountable person takes action.  They don’t wait for others to do it and they definitely don’t make excuses on why they can’t get something done!  Leaders are ACCOUNTABLE! So the question to each of us during this busy season is, “What mindset are you adopting?”  Are you blaming the market, the lawsuits in our industry, interest rates, lack of inventory, or are you looking at all the challenges we are experiencing in the real estate industry as an opportunity to be an overcomer and succeed in spite of these challenges? In 2008-2009, when the real estate market took a spiraling shift toward rock bottom, many agents still had their best years ever in real estate and made a lot of money.  How did they do it?  They hired coaches and put systems in place to overcome THEMSELVES and the VICTIM mindsets that surround them.  To navigate the real estate waters ahead of us, we ,as the Southeast Region, must make the shifts in our mindset that will allow us to put all oars in the water and paddle like we have never paddled before!  I am confident that we will have rough waters ahead of us. I know there will be days that feel like a tsunami is taking us over.  Yet I also know this, the SE Region did not become #1 by sitting on the shorelines watching others paddle in the race to success. We didn’t wait for the market to be right, or KWRI to create systems for us, nor did we wait for NAR or our local boards to figure out how we needed to paddle in the rough waters.  We got in our boats, pushed off the shore, and paddled.  TOGETHER!  The BOLD law says we can have Fear or Faith, we get to choose.  I choose FAITH.  I choose to wake up each and every day by putting my oar in the water and paddling WITH you.  It won’t be easy.  Yet there is no other group of people or REGION that I would want to do it with! Lather up on that sunscreen leaders, and let’s get to paddling!

Onward and UPWARD,

Captain Dawn

PATRICK’S TECH TALK

Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you work, you just can’t get certain things done? You know you have the time, and the intention, but you feel like your day is clunky and inefficient. Welcome to one of the biggest challenges of the modern workplace. Welcome to the death of productivity we call task switching.

The way our modern workplace works, especially hustle culture in America, we find ourselves pulled in a hundred different directions, having a hundred different conversations. One minute you’re reading a text about an offer, the next reading an email from a seller who is frustrated with an inspection report, the next trying to input some contacts in Command, all while receiving notifications and pings and alerts from a hundred different applications on your mobile device. Sometimes those distractions are just marketing trash, sometimes they are important but not urgent, sometimes they are urgent but not important. The problem, however, is that each of the tasks you might be drawn into at a whim often require a different focus, or a distinct part of your brain.

Negotiating you is not the same as marketing you. Hanging out with your family and making plans you is not the same as driving your car you. Building or maintaining a system you is not the same as lead generation you. These require different skills and intention, and each time we swap between two different tasks, we dramatically reduce our efficiency.

Hear me clearly in this: Human beings are not good at multi-tasking. But we are GREAT at single tasking.

This is where deep work comes into play. But what is deep work? “Deep work is a state of distraction-free concentration when your brain works at its maximum potential.” In other words, it’s distraction-free single tasking.

Every time we switch tasks, we are sacrificing about twenty minutes of focused attention, which can end up costing us as much as 40% of our productivity when you math it out. This increases the time and energy it takes to get the most critical tasks done in our day. And if we’re honest, it’s why we end up not doing some of the things we committed to.

Would you like to science back some of your time? And with less frustration? Want to learn more about deep work? Get some real work done?

Through June 5th on Weds mornings 8c/9e we will be doing a weekly session of deep work to segment and clean up our Command databases so we can stay in relationship with those who matter most. Join us!
