Dawn’s Coffee Talk

Southeast Region!  It’s hard to believe that I have just completed my first FULL YEAR with you as the Regional Director of this Award Winning Region!  It truly has been an honor to serve alongside you and navigate all of the ups and downs of our real estate industry.  I am grateful for your grace and mercy that you have shown me along the way.  Which brings me to my next Leadership Stone to share with you:  Failing Forward.  As I reflect over my past year in this seat, and study those ups and downs, I see where there were times of wins and times of losses. Good decisions, great decisions, and decisions that could’ve been better.  I see where I leaned into others and gathered great insight and other times where I didn’t seek wise counsel and then had to navigate those consequences.  Being a leader is hard.  Being a leader in today’s world can only be done if you are passionate about people and willing to make mistakes. None of us has all the answers to all the questions and challenges that we face on a daily basis.  We wake up and begin the day with a desire to impact one life at a time.  Our hearts are in the right places, we just might not have all the right answers.  In studying highly influential people, I have noticed that they are willing to make mistakes for the pursuit of becoming a better leader.  They adopt an attitude of learning through things instead of always having to be perfect.  I am grateful for leaders like John Maxwell who wrote the book Failing Forward. It encouraged me to know that great leaders, who have impacted lots of people, have also failed and yet chose to fail forward.

Here is a question to journal on:  If we knew that failing was the secret sauce to success, would you fail more often?  Think about that for a second.  Grab your journal and write out your thoughts around that question.  If we know that by failing forward through our mistakes we could become a better leader, would you wake up every day asking for a failing moment?  A moment where you could learn something from?  If Failing Forward was a math problem, it would be the multiplier to our success.  Everything in life would go through that lens to see how we navigated those moments when we were not our best.  I have found that our attitude toward failing dictates how we will respond in those moments.  Do you get angry when you fail? Do you retract and try to hide?  Does depression creep in?  Do negative limiting beliefs start to overcome you?  What lies do you believe in those moments?  I have had all those feelings plus some in my failing moments!  What gets me through it is having a tribe of people around me to encourage me….to give me grace and mercy….to remind me that I am better than that decision.  Who do you have in your inner circle that will link arms with you and help you navigate the Failing Forward mentality?  As the saying goes, “No one succeeds alone.”  Therefore, don’t fail alone.  Find your tribe and work through this thing we call life….one failure at a time.

I am grateful for each of you and thank you for allowing me to be a part of this amazing region filled with the best leaders.  I intend to grab more coffee dates in the future to learn from you guys even more.  Together, we will Fail Forward and keep the Southeast Region…..#1!

PATRICK’S TECH TALK

Time and money. These are the two things that technology is typically here to help solve in business. At different cycles of life, one is more important than the other, and as circumstances change, these can change. What technology is not good at, especially in our industry, is to replace you and the value you provide. What it can do, however, is make YOU more efficient, more systematic, and more intentional. What it can do is create leverage to unlock that time or money. So, with this in mind, let’s talk about one of the most valuable and often overlooked tools in your belt.

Gmail Email Templates.

Ever have a message you write again and again to new buyers or sellers letting them know where you are in the process? Or with what steps come next?

Ever need to convey certain key dates but need a framework around it that doesn’t change all that much?

Ever need to ask for something but forget the words to say and don’t have the brainpower to create something new?

Ever needed a recap email for a seller and got tired of making the details again and again?

Each of these use cases is where templates shine.

Inside Google Suite, Gmail allows you to create email templates that can be deployed with just a few button clicks. All you have to do is create an original email with the desired content and finished subject that will be used as your template, having first deleted your signature and starting from blank, then click the 3 vertical dots at the bottom of the email composer. Under the menu that appears, go to templates, save draft as templatesave new template. Once saved, the new template will appear under the 3 vertical dots pop-up and will be named whatever your subject was.

As a best practice, I underline or add special characters like <> on parts of the email that need to be customized with special links or key information that I will then replace before sending. Once you’ve created these templates, you’ll spend less time in the weeds putting together the routine day-to-day messages.

What will you create?
