Dawn’s Coffee Talk

Whoa!  Hands up Southeast Region! Does anyone else feel like they are riding the emotional roller coaster?  So much going on in our Country, Region, KWRI, and Market Centers!  I am sure some of you are feeling like you got a good case of whiplash on some days.  Thank goodness for the BOLD law that encourages us to “Keep our emotions between the lines”. It is a friendly reminder that no matter what is going on around us we need to keep our emotions in the safe zone in order to navigate the road ahead of us.  It is easy to give into all those negative emotions when the rest of the world seems to have them on will call and our social media pages are flooded with all sorts of distractions.  May I encourage you today to practice what I know helps us to be successful and empowered leaders?  Practice DISCIPLINE.  It’s a word many of us don’t like yet if you hang with me for a moment, you will see that successful leaders practice discipline in situations like these.  They understand when the world around them is becoming chaotic they slow down and spend more time reflecting internally on who they are working on becoming instead of allowing the circumstances of the moment to define them.  They revisit those goals they set for themselves and dig deeper to finish the 4th quarter strong.  They use the month of November to practice the discipline of gratitude because they know that they are blessed with more than they deserve.  They wake up everyday working harder on themselves than tearing down others. They practice discipline in seeking good in their lives and run from the negative. They find people that they can add value to even if they didn’t agree with them on the recent political platform.  Jocko Willink tells us in his book, Extreme Ownership,  that “Discipline Equals Freedom”.  A lot of people are emotionally charged today in ways that are not serving them to be their best version of themselves.  When we practice the discipline of controlling our emotions we actually gain the freedom to live more peaceful lives.  One discipline I have been doing for years is writing in my gratitude journal in the mornings.  When I write down three things I am grateful for AND three things that will make my day great it sets my mental thermostat for the day.  I know that I can control the temperature of my emotions if I set the thermostat correctly.  Gratitude does that for me! If you are looking for a great gratitude journal, check out the one that I have used for 10 years now:  https://www.intelligentchange.com.  It will guide you through the questions to jumpstart your day in the right direction!

November is also a great month to show our clients that we appreciate THEM!  Take a few minutes each day this month to reach out to at least 10 people in your database to tell them that you are grateful that they trusted you as their real estate consultant.  I am sure they would love to hear from you and receive some of YOUR positive emotional energy right now.  Go ahead….make that first call.  You won’t regret it!

Let’s all work harder to become better humans in November.  I am confident when we do that we will all enjoy the roller coasters of life….better.

Hands UP!

PATRICK’S TECH TALK

When it comes to acquiring real estate business, we start simple, and tend to become more complex as time goes on, and that’s not always a good thing. This is entropy at work, a cosmic bias towards chaos. But the reality of the situation is usually easier. And so, here I am, reminded once more of Occam’s Razor.

“Occam’s razor is a problem-solving principle that states the simplest explanation is usually the most accurate.”

Last week we hosted Success is Under Your Command, our all-day Command training for the Southeast Region. One of the sessions was the Golden Text Workshop by Sam Jackson, an amazing class. In this session, he helped agents in our region (in a TCPA friendly and compliant way) reach out to clients in their database via text to see if their situation had changed and if they were interested in listing their home. He used key phrases from Phil Jones (Author of Exactly What to Say in Real Estate) and encouraged the over 150 people we had in the room at the time to do a few simple activities. Of those agents who were engaged in the class, we had over 40 responses in just a few minutes, and I know personally of at least 7 seller’s appointments set from it. If you do the simple math of 75% conversion, that means our one-hour session resulted in about 5 closed units. Level of effort for that business? Minimal.

Do you know what my aha was when the dust settled? Why are we not doing this more often? Why are we not using tools like Command to remind us at least once a year to check on our core database to see if they need an update on the value of their home? Why are we not leveraging tools to make sure we set coffee appointments and lunches to connect with people we call our sphere? These people know, like, and trust you! Don’t let that love go cold.

Command is a tool designed to help you be more human, more often, and at times we overcomplicate the systems we put in place thinking more is better. Communication in this arena is meant to spark curiosity, to keep you top-of-mind, and to have them ask questions that shouldn’t be discussed over text because they are too nuanced.

So, when you reach out and get that response: “Is today a good time to list? I’m not sure”. All you need to say is “Sounds like we should meet…”
